    A People's Peace in Cyprus

A survey was published by the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels in 2009, entitled "A People's Peace in Cyprus: Testing public opinion on the options for a comprehensive settlement", by A. Lordos, E Kaymak and N. Tocci. Interviewees were questioned, inter alia, regarding the profile of non-Cypriots who in their view should be allowed to remain in Cyprus in a post-solution situation. Regarding third country nationals who have been in Cyprus for less than 10 years, Greek Cypriots responded that they should leave immediately (47%); there should be a gradual departure (26%); they should be given a residence permit (23%); they should be given citizenship (3%). Regarding third country nationals who h ave been in Cyprus for more than 10 years, Greek Cypriots responded that they should leave immediately (31%); there should be a gradual departure (30%); they should be given a residence permit (30%); they should be given citizenship (8%). Regarding children whose parents came to Cyprus from a third country but were themselves born in Cyprus, Greek Cypriots responded that they should leave immediately (25%); there should be a gradual departure (25%); they should be given a residence permit (19%); they should be given citizenship (19%). Regarding third country nationals married to Greek Cypriots, interviews responded that they should leave immediately (8%); there should be a gradual departure (4%), they should be given residence permit (53%) and they should be given citizenship (33%).
