Qualitative Info

No public administration positions are reserved for members of minorities. Few members of the three recognised minorities (Armenians, Latins, Maronites) hold administrative positions, but not through any preferential employment system. There are no Roma in the public administration. A few Turkish Cypriots hold rather low status or temporary positions in public administration (e.g,. interpreters in the District Administration office). The constitutional provisions guaranteeing 30% public service positions to Turkish Cypriots have been suspended since 1964. The Ombudsman's recommendation that the police hires members of the Greek pontian community amongst its ranks have not been implemented.
