In 2011, a total of 36,723 foreign citizens are permanently residing in Bulgaria, forming 0.5% of the country’s population. The number of persons with Russian citizenship totals 11,991 (65.1 % of all foreign citizens), Ukranian – 3,064 (16.6%), FYR Macedonian – 1,091 (5.9%), Moldovan 893 (4.8%) and Serbian – 596 (or 3.1%).
A total of 8,444 EU citizens are permanently residing in Bulgaria in 2011. The United Kingdom citizens hold the largest share with 2,605 persons (30.9% of the EU citizens residing in Bulgaria), followed by the citizens of Greece – 1,235 (14.8%), Germany – 848 (10%), Poland – 819 (9.7%), and Italy – 456 (5.4 %).
A total of 22.9 % of the foreign citizens residing permanently in Bulgaria come from Asia, largest share of these is held by the citizens of Turkey – 32.6 %, followed by the Armenians – 13.9 % and China – 8.9%.
