The conditions that must be fulfilled for regular naturalisation are very strict. The applicant: i) has to submit a release from current citizenship, ii) must have lived in Slovenia for ten years, of which the five years prior to the application must be without interruption, iii) must fulfil the requirements that he/she does not constitute a threat to public order or the security and defence of Slovenia, that he/she has fulfilled his or her tax obligations and has a guaranteed permanent source of income, iv) must have a clean criminal record, v) must have elementary level of command of the Slovene language, etc. Sources: Country Report for Slovenia, EUDO Citizenship Observatory, by Felicita Medved, December 2009, revised May 2010, http://eudo-citizenship.eu/docs/CountryReports/Slovenia.pdf.
