There is not a law which provides for the legalizing of illegal immigrants in order to ensure their rights. Nonetheless there are some special and extraordinary measures adopted by the government in order to legalise the illegal immigrants present on the Italian territory. The last one was he regularisation measure launched in August 2009 through law decree n° 78/2009 (art.1 ter) turned into law n. 102/2009. This measure provided for the regularization of domestic workers. This is only one of the activities of foreigners. Indeed there are other important categories (i.e building industry and agricultural workers, self-employment…). In Italy the biggest “sanatatoria” took place in 2002.
