Short Answer

Gaps in data collection make ascertaining the number of crimes involving racism/hate-crime brought to court very difficult. However “Information provided by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) shows that last year there were 122 racist incidents, including harassment, minor assaults and public order offences.” – Irish Examiner, 2011.

Qualitative Info

In 2005 the now closed NCCRI published a report entitled, ‘‘Combating racially motivated crimes

Through legislation,’ which held the following data;

“In 2003 was the first full year in which racially motivated incidents was clearly defined to members of the police and in that year 81 incidents were recorded, compared with 102 in 2002 and 43 in 2001.”
