On 9 January 2006, four youngsters attacked a 12-year old boy of Ethiopian origin in Pömmelte near Magdeburg. The assailants humbled the boy for more than one hour because of his skin colour. The boy suffered severe injuries and was for more than one week in hospital. Following the attack, the victim moved away from Pömmelte fearing to meet his perpetrators again. The assailants have been accused for aggravated battery, coercion and unlawful detention.
The local court in Schönebeck sentenced the 20-year old main perpetrator to three years and six month in prison. One 16-year old perpetrator was sentenced to two years in prison, maybe with the possibility on probation after six month in prison. Two other 16-year old assailants have been sentenced to one year and seven month on probation.
