In the Frankfurt district Westend, a 42-year old rabbi was stabbed by a 22-year old German of Afghan origin. According to witnesses, the attack was preceded by anti-Semitic insults. After the rabbi grabbed the perpetrator by the collar, the perpetrator stabbed him in the stomach. The victim underwent emergency surgery and stayed in the hospital for some time. The prosecutor admitted to stabbing the rabbi, though denying any anti-Semitic motives and any intention to kill the victim. The regional court Frankfurt sentenced him to three and a half years in prison. According to the police and the public prosecutor, the man does not have a radical Islamic background, but has a criminal record.
