On 21 March 2009, at a bus stop located next to a hostel for foreign students in Warsaw, a Nigerian student of the Collegium Civitas was attacked. The perpetrators initially assaulted him verbally, started tugging at him and then sprayed him in the face with mace. The student was able to run away into a bus, where the driver shut the door to keep out the pursuing assailants. According to Collegium Civitas authorities, this was not an isolated case of an attack on a student of the College. The perpetrators have not been caught.
